Cicero on Government Finances

So what have we learned in 2,064 years ?

“The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

Cicero – 55 BC

One Response to Cicero on Government Finances

  1. That is a classic quote and it scares me that we have had the same problem for 2064 years and no one (in power) has figured out how to correct it…which makes the conspiracy theorist in me think someone must want it that way (que ominous music playing in your head).
